Measuring Peter Filder`s Explorations and Travels
[PAPER IS NOT COMPLETE]
Since my early introduction to David Thompson, the exploration of western Canada suddenly became an interest to me. The next great Canadian surveyor
that I became interested in was Peter Fidler, an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company, trained by Philip Turnor, and a friend of David Thompson.
The results in the paper 'Chasing Peter Fidler' will come about as a result of the rigorous research into the explorations and travels of Fidler that is currently under way. Like Thompson before, I have placed all of
Fidler's travels within a contemporary GIS and am now calculating measured distances as I confirm each of the routes that Fidler traveled. The research
inherently will verify his routes and measure the distances covered by Fidler between 1789 and 1822; the years spent while engaged in the fur trade with
the Hudson's Bay Company. A number will be provided once the work is done and a map created to display the results much in the same manner as the maps
created for Thompson.
