A Map of North America 84° West to the Pacific Ocean

Presently there is an effort underway by myself and other researchers to acquire high resolution scans from England of a map entitled ‘A Map of North America 84° West to the Pacific Ocean’. It was completed in 1826 by David Thompson in an effort to convince the English Crown not to give up the Oregon Territory.

According to the research of myself and my colleagues it is most likely the 3rd version of the Great map that Thompson creates. The first being in 1814 and the second being in c.1816 (located at Archives of Ontario).

The 1826 version is the most detailed and immaculate version in existence and it does not deserve to be locked away in an archive in England, hidden from our view or the views of our citizens.

The ultimate objective of acquiring the high resolution scans are provide high resolution prints of the map gratis to educational institutions so that the map is available for study in Canada by students of Canadian History, Surveying, Geography and to Canadian Scholars.
