The 2008 David Thompson Brigade Guide Book and Maps
The Front Cover of the River Guide
The guide book was conceptualized 2 years before the trip began. It was my goal to not
only provide a reliable series of maps from the beginning of the event to it's end; it was also my goal to fulfill one
of the Brigade's goals. This was of course to educate the participants about who Thompson was and the early
history that existed along the waterways they would travel.
Therefore I included short snips of Thompson history and as well as landscape history where ever I could within each map. I also included the 'approximate' location of early fur trade posts and forts, some of which Thompson would have visited or stayed at. Finally I re-introduced the participants to Charlotte, Thompson's wife, along with some small essays concerning the fur trade and other small topics.
In all there were 107 pages to the guide, 72 of which were maps.
Example of Map from the River Guide

This is an example of one of the maps in the map book.
The maps were created at a scale of 1:100000.
Within it you will notice most of the symbology that was utilized for the maps.
From these maps would come enlargements comprised of just over two days travel on each map for use by the advance crew and the brigade water captain during their evening briefings for the next day's travel.
